Great for kids aged 7 upwards. Ace for sleepovers. Also known as Spotlight or Kick the Bucket.
You will need:
- a good sized backyard or garden with places to hide
- make sure there is nothing dangerous to trip over e.g. piles of bricks
- a flashlight (or two)
- a bucket or box
- don’t wear smart shoes
- no jewellery
- optional hats
Choose a "stalker". For more than 6 people, choose 2 stalkers.
Give the stalkers a flashlight each. Make sure everyone knows the play area, and where it stops.
Find a place in the middle of the play area which will be the base. Put a bucket or box at the base.
The stalker starts at the base. Tell everyone to run off, while the stalker counts down from 60 to zero.
When the countdown ends, the stalker begins hunting with his flashlight.
When he spots someone with the flashlight, the stalker needs to call out their name.
If you get called out, you go back to the base, and wait for rescue.
If the stalker does not identify you correctly, you get 30 seconds to go and hide again.
To get rescued, someone needs to sneak up to the base, and touch it to release you.
Only one person can be rescued at a time.
If you get rescued, the stalker must give you 60 seconds to escape from the base again.
The stalker wins when he has caught everyone.
1. If you have mobile phones, it's fun to call each other up whilst you are playing.
Beware: If your friends have left the ringtone switched on it will help the stalker find you ;-)
2. From the comments: to improve this, at the start everyone wear a funky / weird hat. When the stalker counts, switch hats so they don't know who is who.
